Automation and robotics
Details of automation and robotics project undertaken by Sheffield Hallam University's Materials and Engineering Research Institute
Coatings Analysis
We offer a complete coating development package giving a choice of composition, architecture (monolayer or multilayers) and PVD deposition techniques to suit specific needs.
Product development
The Centre for Infrastructure Management provides research and development (R&D) expertise to industry (especially SMEs) to develop innovative and novel products which enable the companies to maintain a lead market position.
Coating characterisation and testing
Evaluation of coating performance in standardised tests allows realistic comparisons to state of the art. It is essential for quality control
Simulation of Supramolecular Structures
Using the same types of simulation on other choices of simple particle systems, we have developed a specific expertise in observing the development of soft triply-periodic structures such as the Gyroid
Computer Simulation of Liquid Crystals
We have extensive experience of simulating liquid crystalline behaviour at a range of length-scales. At a molecular scale, we have developed a particular expertise in mixture systems and in anchoring at patterned substrates
Contact Angle Measurement
The contact angle is the angle which is formed at the three-phase interface between a solid, a liquid drop and air or another gas. Such measurements can be used to determine wettability, which provides an indication of how effectively a liquid will spread over a surface.
Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry
Mercury porosimetry analysis is the progressive intrusion of mercury into a porous structure under controlled pressures. From the pressure versus intrusion data, the instrument generates volume and size distributions using the Washburn equation.
Innovation through KTP leads to creation of specialist sister company
Rotherham-based PMS Diecasting were keen to explore how they could improve their own capability in tool-making, thus reducing their dependence – and its associated problems – on external suppliers
