“As a designer, I am responsible for creating a variety of visuals for our clients. I support clients by producing graphics, branding, vinyl, and social media assets. I create a variety of graphics including posters, menu boards, and other creative content. I get to make pretty products for our clients!

“With help from my employer, I chose to study at Sheffield Hallam. It’s one of the only universities to offer a digital design apprenticeship.

“I enjoy on-the-job learning in my chosen field as a result of the apprenticeship, this especially helps with having better context for my learning to utilise in the workplace.

“Being an apprentice at Sheffield Hallam means I have regular check-ins with my apprenticeship mentor and academic adviser. This is where I share my experiences and receive feedback.

“I’ve gained a lot of confidence, which has made me more independent.”

“I’ve enjoyed the digital practice modules so far, my project highlighted a variety of design techniques, outlining the skills I have developed during the course.

“I would love to be a senior designer, specialising in UI (User Interface) design or animation and illustrations. I love challenges and find these specialisms exciting.

“It can be intense working full-time and completing an apprenticeship. Be prepared for a challenge! And make sure you plan your time. An apprenticeship is a great way to get a certificate in your chosen area, whilst also gaining work experience at the same time.”

This course is delivered by Sheffield Hallam as part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology
