Arriving at a different UK airport

Arriving at a different UK airport

Sheffield is conveniently located in the centre of the UK, and there are good transport links to all major cities and airports. You can often get cheaper flights to some of the smaller airports near Sheffield. However, it may be more difficult and expensive to travel from these airports to Sheffield.

We recommend you fly to Manchester Airport as we can meet you and bring you to the University. We can also give you directions from other UK airports.

Due to COVID-19 Health & Safety measures, please ensure you familiarise yourself with the government guidance for entering England during coronavirus (COVID-19) and the safer travel guidance for passengers.

UK passport control

When you arrive at the airport in the UK, head to passport control. If you are a national from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea or the USA, and are staying in the UK for over 6 months, you can use the automated eGates

If you are a short term student (up to 6 months) or from a country not listed above, you must not use the eGates, as you need to see an officer to get a stamp in your passport. This stamp gives you the permissions needed for your studies. To assist with this, download this document and present it to a Border Force Officer. This can be presented to staff either printed or shown on a mobile device.
