The Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor is the chief executive of the University. He is responsible for the executive management of the University and its day-to-day direction, and provides the vision and leadership necessary to put the governors' decisions into effect.

The Vice-Chancellor is supported and advised by the University Leadership Team. He is chair of the the Academic Board and a member of the Board of Governors.

The main tasks of the Vice-Chancellor include

  • providing leadership, both academic and administrative, to the whole University
  • representing the University externally, both within the UK and overseas
  • being accountable for the public use of funds
  • carrying out certain important ceremonial and civic duties
