How you learn
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
The course is focused on the real-world application of PR and communication theory. You'll work on live briefs with real clients, learning how to work with bloggers and journalists and develop an organisation's reputation. You'll also explore the day-to-day realities of the job - how to write sharp news releases, manage a crisis and examine how ethics are central to the public relations sphere.

Throughout the course you'll work with real clients on practice-based projects, allowing you the real-world experience that is so central to the PR industry.
A number of industry days and events (Grad Talk, Pathways) are held on campus enabling you to network with and attend talks and workshops run by creative media industry professionals and organisations. These activities give a window to the world of work and opportunities that lie ahead.

This course benefits from Partner University status with the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA). A limited number of Universities are endorsed by the PRCA for offering excellent courses which are intellectually rigorous and esteemed by employers.

This course is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
When you enrol on a course recognised by the CIPR you are eligible for CIPR Student Membership. This gives you access to the members area of the CIPR website, where they have a dedicated student area which offers help and advice on getting into the PR industry.

• an honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent in any subject
• a good standard of written and spoken English.
Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.5 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
You may also be considered if you do not hold a degree but can provide evidence of relevant professional experience.
If you do not have such academic qualifications we may consider your application individually, based on your personal, professional and work experience, and other formal qualifications. Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2023/24 is £9,910 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. If the full course is more than one year in duration, the fee will be divided into annual payments which will then be rounded. This may mean the total fee you pay is slightly higher than the fee stated above. If you take a break in study or have to re-take part of the course, you may also be charged an additional fee and will be notified of this at the time.
