Occupational Therapy (Pre-Registration)

The aim of this module is to enable you to apply knowledge of research theories, including epistemology, and methods in order to critically evaluate research paradigms and evidence for practice. It will enable you to develop a critical understanding of research approaches, principles and processes that underpin research activity in the workplace and address the ethical dilemmas and organisational complexities of undertaking practice-based research.

On this module you will learn interactively about the application of occupational therapy tools for practice from initial assessment through to intervention and evaluation. You will take part in hands on practical workshops and using simulated environments designed by clinical and academic experts. Digital technology is woven through the module to enhance learning experiences and give real world employability skills such as the skills to conduct virtual home visits and the use of apps to enhance interventions. You will learn about occupational performance analysis and the application of a range of assessments and occupational therapy approaches. You will develop and apply occupational therapy informed clinical reasoning to assessing and promoting health and wellbeing.

This module gives you core knowledge of health systems and conditions across the lifespan and their impact on occupational performance. Our learning activities to support and engage you and develop your core professional identity as an occupational therapist. The teaching in the module will prepare you to thrive with the challenges of your first placement experience. It will give you the underpinning knowledge, theory and clinical reasoning to help develop your future practice.

You’ll learn to apply these critically to real world scenarios and case studies that have been coproduced with service users to bring to life the health conditions and their impacts on occupation performance

Each practice-based learning experience will be different according to the practice area. Your placements allow you opportunities to demonstrate your capability and competence in the areas to be assessed. There may be opportunities for blended learning, digitally enhanced learning, and research-based learning. This module gives you a foundation in practice-based learning and the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the course so far across the four pillars of practice, with the close support of a practice educator. Your assessment is integrated throughout, so you are informed of your progress.

This module will enable you to develop and conduct an in depth investigation of a topic that challenges and contributes to your area of professional practice. It provides the opportunity to engage in and apply an understanding of research methods and demonstrate your ability to work with relative autonomy in undertaking a sustained, in-depth piece of independent learning, disseminating findings to your professional community

This module enables you to critically reflect on and evaluate the key components of integrated health and social care required to effectively support service users, carers and their families who have complex health and care needs.

You’ll learn through content linked to the case studies which are used to frame the module. This will include specific interventions related to physical and psycho-social challenges in addressing complex needs of patients with acute and long term conditions across a range of delivery settings in which you will work with other disciplines. This module will develop your knowledge and understanding of the challenges of occupation and wellbeing implementation strategies. You’ll learn through classroom and online discussion, learning exercises and groupwork combined with flexible learning and personalisation. This will include critical debate and workshops, business case templates, service improvement tools and stakeholder analysis planning. You’ll learn about policy and public health objectives and priorities. This module prepares you to work in traditional settings, third sector organisations and community projects, or other areas

This module gives you an opportunity to devise, apply, and evaluate assessment, decision making, and interventions across the four pillars of practice, with support of a practice educator. practice-based learning is mainly experiential, so you’ll have the opportunity to observe and participate in practice. You’ll have regular supervision to further develop your reflective skills and to review your practice skills. You’ll have the opportunity to work more independently, showing self-motivation, insight into own abilities, and an ability to identify own learning needs. Assessment is integrated throughout, so you are informed of your progress.

This module gives you an opportunity to make the first steps from student to newly qualified practitioner. You’ll be enabled to develop into an independent practitioner, fit for practice, by providing you an opportunity to engage in complex situations with support from your practice educator. You’ll have the opportunity to use reflection to review and develop your practice, to work in a client-centred way and to integrate your knowledge and experience from the course to critically appraise your own and current Occupational Therapy practice.
