This course is suitable for individuals returning to study or those seeking to explore psychology for the first time. It allows you to acquire the knowledge and scientific understanding of the core facets of psychology. All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
Designed to be delivered with one day per week attendance at university to allow people to continue in employment while they complete the degree, the course is supplemented by self-directed learning tasks that provide optimum flexibility for students who may also be working part-time and/or integrating family life.

Applied learning
Live projects
You complete a large-scale research project under the supervision of a member of staff, which allows you to put the psychological knowledge and research skills you've honed over the course of the degree into practice.
You may be offered the opportunity to assist with undergraduate teaching and/or staff research projects (subject to availability). This will especially suit those interested in a career in academia. In addition, there will be many other opportunities for volunteering available via the wider University and through organisations outside of the University.
Future careers
As a conversion course, the programme is specifically designed to provide you with the necessary grounding in the core academic and subject specific skills needed to gain access to postgraduate training courses for a career in psychology. Past graduates have gone on to apply for training posts in clinical psychology, educational psychology, forensic psychology, health psychology, counselling psychology, as well as PhDs.
Accreditation
This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), provided you achieve an overall mark of at least 50 per cent and pass your dissertation. This is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

Entry requirements
All students
A 2:2 degree or above or equivalent in any subject.
We may consider graduates with relevant work experience.
You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam. Find out more

Typically you need qualifications equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree.
If English is not your first language you must have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in all other skills. For equivalencies see our English language entry requirements web page.
If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.5 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2023/24 is £9,910 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. If the full course is more than one year in duration, the fee will be divided into annual payments which will then be rounded. This may mean the total fee you pay is slightly higher than the fee stated above. If you take a break in study or have to re-take part of the course, you may also be charged an additional fee and will be notified of this at the time.
