Keyword research is the process of finding and establishing a keyword set that you wish to drive traffic to your website via search engines. It’s important to note that websites don’t rank for keywords, pages do.

  • It allows you to find relevant keywords that are less competitive and allow opportunities to come higher up search rankings
  • Allows web pages to cover a wider range of content topics and broadens the type of traffic that can be driven to the website
  • Allows for accurate benchmarking and performance

Keyword targeting

Keyword targeting is the practice of optimising a web page for a sub-set of keyword phrases that you wish to drive traffic to the web page

  • Web pages are an essential component of acquiring traffic In terms of SEO performance, web pages must have a purpose i.e. a topic, or set of topics that they cover in order to drive relevant traffic.
  • Establishing a keyword set enables pages to be optimised for those chosen terms, and performance can be monitored as a result.
  • Keyword phrases placed earlier in the page are typically deemed more important by search engines, ensure targeted keyword term is used at least once in the opening
  • Ensure keyword phrases are appropriately placed in the title tag, URL, meta description, headings and image tags.
  • Use variations of the keyword phrase where possible.
