Adding and editing content

Adding and editing content

Navigate to the page you want to edit or add content to in the sitecore content tree. Select the ‘Main Text Content’ item in the datasource folder of the page you want to edit, this will form the intro to your page.

In the Sitecore menu ribbon, open the 'Review' tab and then choose ‘edit’ to unlock the item, alternatively you can select 'Lock and Edit' from the Content window.

This will open the ‘rich text editor’ where you can add and edit your page content. When you have finished, click the ‘accept’ button if you want to keep the content, or ‘reject’ if you want to leave without saving the changes.

Press ‘save’ in the ribbon when you have completed your changes. Guidance on how to publish pages and change to the website can be found on reviewing and publishing content page.

Multiple text components

If you wish to add other components to your page, such as an image or call to action, you need to add more than one text component. Below is an example of a potential page layout.

  • Your first text component at the top of the page with some of your page content.
  • An image component that supports your content.
  • Another text component with the rest of your page content.

You can find information on how to add a R45 TextComponent to a page in our components section.

Once these are added, the process for editing the content remains the same.

Tables

If you need to create a table on a page in the new design system this is done via the rich text editor described above, rather than as a page component which used to be the case in the legacy design system.

  • From the content tab select ‘show editor’ to bring up the rich text editor.
  • Click on the table wizard icon located near the centre of the toolbar.

  • From the wizard you can choose to auto insert a preset number of columns/rows, plus quick ways to insert a new row, a new column, merge cells etc...

Tables created in Sitecore via this menu are automatically assigned styling which conforms to web accessibility guidelines; tables stay within the page width on both desktop and mobile and header cells (th) are distinct from regular data cells (td).
