Inserting a page link

Inserting a page link

If you need to add a link into your page copy there are two approaches to this depending on the destination of the page you are linking to, internal links and external links.

Internal links

If you are linking to a page that is hosted on Sitecore (shu.ac.uk) then you will need to use an internal link.

  • Locate the text component in the content tree containing the copy
  • Open the text editor
  • Highlight/select the text that will become the link
  • From the toolbar above, select 'Insert Sitecore link'

  • On the window that opens locate and select the destination page from the content tree
  • Select 'Insert'

Your link should now be in place in your page copy.

It is important that you use Internal links as described. This will avoid links being broken should the destination page be renamed or moved in the content tree without your knowledge.

External links

If you are linking to a page that is not hosted on Sitecore then you will need to add this as an external link e.g. www.bbc.co.uk.

  • Locate the text component in the content tree containing the copy
  • Open the rich text editor
  • Highlight/select the text that will become the link
  • From the toolbar above, select 'Hyperlink Manager'
The hyperlink manager button on the editor toolbar
  • A pop up window will open
  • Stay on the hyperlink tab
  • In the URL field, type in the full address of the destination webpage
  • Leave the other field settings as they are
  • Press OK

Your link should now be in place in the page copy.
