Second-year Software Engineering students have been working with Kerridge to optimize truck packing.

The CyberWomen@SHU initiative hosted the Mystery Manor Event, engaging 86 girls from seven schools in hands-on cybersecurity activities like solving ciphers and digital forensics. With 86% rating activities "Very Good," the event sparked career interest, inspiring diversity and future talent in cybersecurity while highlighting its growing importance in the digital age.

We celebrated a year of hard work from students at the games@hallam Game Over 25 showcase and competition, with categories spanning all aspects of game development. The event was attended by friends, family and over 30 judges, not only from the games industry but research, recruitment, software engineering and more.

Hallam Hackz proudly competed in the 2025 UK Cyber Leaders Challenge - Virtual Regional Qualifiers, demonstrating exceptional dedication and expertise. MSc Cyber Security students Tabitha Oldfield, Arafat Lawal, Bhoomika Devaraj, and Amina Moallim secured a spot in the 6th-10th group. Their resilience in tackling real-world cybersecurity challenges is commendable.

The BCS Lovelace Colloquium took place at the University of Glasgow. This annual event is an opportunity for women and non-binary students in Computing to present a research poster. Across the UK 180 submissions were accepted with ten successful applicants from the School of Computing and Digital Technologies.

Sheffield Hallam University’s Women in Tech Skills Exchange Event, in partnership with BCS South Yorkshire and the Home Office, promoted inclusivity, innovation, and growth in tech. The program featured icebreaking sessions, networking, lightning presentations, and interactive sessions led by industry leaders, empowering attendees with new skills, connections, and insights. The event celebrated women’s leadership in a diverse tech community.

This pioneering collaboration aims to revolutionise the way datasets are used for training machine learning models. The focus is upon multilingual work essential in sectors such as medical, engineering, and safety. Inadequate or biased labelling can lead to AI 'hallucinations' – generating incorrect or prejudiced responses – which can have dire consequences in high-stakes industries.

The student showcase, themed "Code to Inspire: Unveiling Tomorrow’s Innovators”, featured student innovation through posters and live demonstrations. Industry partners collaborated with students who developed solutions, to real world problems. Robotics projects including an autonomous vehicle and a system to sort items on a factory belt.

Software developers from SYMCA, Local Authorities across South Yorkshire and South Yorkshire Police gathered together for the first South Yorkshire Digital Alliance hackathon.
