Life in student accommodation

Finding the right place to live while you study can make a big difference to your university experience. With a choice of 13 different halls of residence, you'll be sure to find one that makes you feel at home.

It's social, fun and comes with a ready-made group you can get to know. You'll live alongside new people also studying at Sheffield Hallam, all with different outlooks, cultures, interests and backgrounds. There's also the chance to learn a great deal from communal living that won't be taught on your course!

Find accommodation that suits you

Budget, lifestyle and flat size preferences are things to consider when choosing the best accommodation for you.

  • Budget: Sheffield is one of the most affordable UK cities for accommodation across all types and budgets (Natwest Student Living Index, 2024). With many great properties priced from under £100 per week rent inclusive, there is something for everyone.
  • Facilities: some of our halls have additional facilities such as free on-site gyms, cinema rooms, study areas, private dining rooms and rooftop terraces.
  • Flat sizes: our shared cluster flats typically range from 2 to 9 bedrooms, meaning you can live with as many or as few as you prefer.
  • Room types: along with a huge selection of en-suite, larger and accessible rooms, there is a limited range of self-contained flats if you'd rather have your own space.
  • Location: our halls are within 20 minute walk of our campuses, close by to public transport links and all amenities you’ll need, such as shops, cafes and restaurants.

Getting around the city

It's easy to get around Sheffield thanks to its reliable bus and tram service.

You can walk at a steady pace from City to Collegiate Campus in around 20 to 25 minutes. Most of our allocated halls are suitable and accessible for students studying at both campuses.

Find out more information about bus and tram routes on Travel South Yorkshire. For specific location maps, check out our halls of residence pages.
