Who can live in halls?

Our accommodation is tailor-made for full-time higher education students, at any stage of their studies.

First year undergraduate students

Most first year students will choose to stay in halls of residence as it’s the best way to meet new people, experience living away from home and enjoy student life. By applying through Sheffield Hallam, you are guaranteed you will be sharing your flat in halls with other Hallam students.

Returning students

Halls isn’t just for first years! Live with other returning students either applying alone to meet other returning students, or you can apply as part of a friendship group.

Post-graduate and mature students

You can choose to stay in one of our halls of residence, where you will be allocated in a flat with other postgraduate and/or mature students if possible.

If you prefer to live alone, some of our halls offer self-contained flats/studios, where you will have your own cooking facilities.

Students studying healthcare courses

You can apply for any halls of residence based on your preferences, budget and requirements. We aim to put you in accommodation with other healthcare students when possible depending on availability, as we understand the schedule of your course may be different to others.

Full-time students not studying at Sheffield Hallam

If you are a full-time student at a higher education institution you can apply to live within one of our halls of residence. Please contact Accommodation services via email and we will issue you with an ID number to register and apply.

Erasmus students

We have a limited supply of semester only accommodation for Erasmus students. Please refer to the accommodation information received in your course offer letter to book your room.

Study Abroad students

We have a limited supply of semester only accommodation for study abroad programme students. When making an application, you should select your student type as 'Non-standard Student'. Please make us aware in the notes section that accommodation is only required for semester one.

Who can't live in halls?

Families

Our halls of residence can only be used by full-time students, not their families. If you want to live with your family while you're studying, you'll need to find a property in the private sector.

Make sure you arrange accommodation before you arrive in Sheffield. If that's not possible, you can arrange temporary accommodation for yourself while you find somewhere more permanent for your family.

Find out more about renting privately in our guidance for students with families.

Pets

Sadly, you can't bring your pets with you to university. All our halls have a strict no pet policy.
