What is university clearing and who is it for?

Clearing is your chance to find a course and start university this September. Most people apply through clearing because they didn't get their predicted grades or they had a change of heart about going to university.

Priority clearing is a way you can guarantee your place at Sheffield Hallam University before results day* – apply now to secure your place at Sheffield Hallam University in advance.

What clearing entry requirements do I need and when can I apply?

You can apply through priority clearing from 2 July to 11 August at 3pm. You can apply through clearing from 7am on 13 August.

What information will I need when I call about clearing?

When you call up, you’ll need a full list of your results, including your GCSE grades.

If you’ve already applied through UCAS, it’s also good to have your UCAS Personal ID number if you're registered with UCAS or your Sheffield Hallam student ID. This is an 8-digit number you can find on emails or letters sent to you by our admissions team.

If we make you an offer, we’ll email you the details, so make sure you use an email address you can check regularly.


How does accommodation work in clearing?

You’re guaranteed an offer of a place to live, but it's a good idea to think about your accommodation once you've secured a place through clearing or priority clearing. The accommodation line can be reached by calling the clearing line on 0330 024 6390 and selecting option 3 when our phonelines are open.

What support do you offer for clearing applicants?

Hallam Progress provides support for applicants whose personal circumstances might mean there are barriers to going to university. There’s still time to join the scheme if you’re applying through clearing. The Hallam Progress team can support with navigating the clearing process, helping you make the right decision for you, and getting everything in place for starting university.
