How to apply

This page gives you step-by-step instructions on how to apply through clearing, so you know exactly what to expect. You can start your application when our clearing phoneline opens on 4 July. You don't even need your results to get started, just your predicted grades.

Unsure if you can apply through clearing? Find out who clearing is for or view our clearing opening times.

International Applications

Clearing is closed to international applicants this year. Due to significant delays in UK Visas and Immigration’s ability to process Student Visas for September entry, regrettably we will not be accepting any international applications via the clearing phoneline or online application form.

Already applied through UCAS

If you didn’t get the results you needed for your first or insurance choice university, you can still find a place at Sheffield Hallam through clearing.

Here’s what you need for clearing and how it works in three simple steps.

Step 1: Check the UCAS Hub

Before you do anything else, check the UCAS Hub to see if your first or insurance choice university has confirmed your place. If not, you can decide to enter clearing.

Step 2: Call us

Call us up on 0330 024 6390.

When you call up, you’ll need a full list of your results, including your GCSE grades. It’s also good to have your UCAS Personal ID number if you're registered with UCAS or your Sheffield Hallam student ID. This is an 8-digit number you can find on emails or letters sent to you by our admissions team.

Be prepared to talk about why you want to study the course. Think about what you wrote in your personal statement and why you're passionate about the subject.

If we make you an offer, we’ll email you the details, so make sure you use an email address you can check regularly.

Selection events and interviews

For some courses (e.g. health profession courses and teacher education), you will be required to attend a selection event/interview before a decision is made. Be prepared to attend with short notice, possibly even the same day.

Step 3: Accept your offer

When you receive an offer of a place, log into the UCAS Hub and add your clearing choice to accept your offer to study with us.
