Rethinking learning
At Sheffield Hallam, we’re innovating how you learn and take assessments.
We’ve designed our teaching in partnership with students and employers so that you’ll study a maximum of four modules each year. You’ll usually only study two or fewer modules at once, and never more than three modules at a time.
This means you can:
- study your topic in greater depth – you’ll get to immerse yourself in your subject for a more rewarding and applied learning experience
- apply your learning to the real world, through placements, live projects with industry and global opportunities
- make connections between topics and discover what interests you most
- grow your knowledge from one module to the next, with lecturers who fully understand what you’ve learnt so far and can build on this
- take fewer, more focused assessments, not lots of end-of-year exams. You’ll usually be assessed whilst you’re studying a module, so the topic is fresh in your mind
We believe this more modern approach supports better learning outcomes and equips you with the skills to succeed in your future career.

Your voice
We worked with students to design this approach – and we'll keep working with you to refine it, year after year.
You'll have the chance to get involved in discussions about how you're taught, and have your say through the Students' Union's academic representation programme.
With you from the very start
