How you'll learn

We've worked with our students to develop an approach that combines time on campus with digital learning and support.

And because every course is different, your learning mix will reflect what you're studying and the modules you've chosen.

Knowledge Applied

Whether on campus or online, our learning is about putting knowledge into practice. We design courses to help you engage with the world, collaborate with others and think in new ways.

On-campus teaching

Lectures, seminars, demonstrations and tutorials, run by our own tutors and visiting industry experts.

Online learning

Live-streamed lessons, online learning materials and student community apps, all available on demand.

Learning by doing

Practical work in labs, studios, workshops and simulation environments, plus field trips and educational visits.

Work experience

Real-world projects with industry leaders through placements, internships and volunteering activities.

Independent study

Self-guided work in flexible learning spaces, libraries and digital platforms – and with expert support when you need it.

University of the Year for Teaching Quality

We were The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for Teaching Quality in 2020

Knowledge applied

Our teaching style can be summed up in two words: knowledge applied. We believe the best way to learn something is to put it into practice. You'll achieve that through

  • work experience embedded in every year of your course
  • opportunities to take a placement year, resulting in an applied professional diploma
  • a digital skills pathway within your course
  • a personalised support and employability package
  • a course designed with industry experts
  • personal development tailored to your chosen course and industry
  • a curriculum designed for collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning

Your voice

We worked with students to design this approach – and we'll keep working with you to refine it, year after year.

You'll have the chance to get involved in discussions about how you're taught, and have your say through the Students' Union's academic representation programme.

With you from the very start

From the moment your place is confirmed, we'll support you to get ready for university.
