Activate your IT account

Activating your Hallam IT account is the first step in the enrolment process.

You can activate your account as soon as you receive your enrolment invitation email. We will be sending out enrolment invitations by email one to two weeks before your course starts.

You will need:

  • your student number, and
  • your username.

Both of these are in your enrolment invitation email.

Can't find the enrolment email?

If the email is due but you can't find it, try the following.

  • Make sure you are checking the same email account you used to apply.
  • Look for the subject line 'Time to enrol at Sheffield Hallam'.
  • Check your junk or spam folders.

If you still can't find your email, contact us at enrolment@shu.ac.uk or on 0114 478 1478. The team is available Monday to Friday, 10am - 12pm and 2 - 4pm UK time.

After activating your account

After activating your account, you can move on to completing the enrolment form

Whilst not required to complete enrolment, to be able to fully set up your IT account and access many other University services, including your University email, we now require the use of Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to help protect your account.

We encourage you to follow the guidance on our MFA web pages as soon as possible to set up the methods you’d like to use.

If you choose not to set these up now, the first time you try to access an MFA protected service, you will be prompted to do so before being able to access that service.
