The scheme is now open for nominations for students wanting to start at Sheffield Hallam in September 2026. To get the most out of the scheme, we encourage you to join before you submit your UCAS application. However we have a programme of support and events throughout the year.
You’re guaranteed a place if you’re eligible and join the scheme between 1 October 2025 and 28 February 2026. Spaces are limited, and we may not be able to accept nominations later on in the academic year (March 2026 onwards).
To join the scheme, you need to be nominated by a professional who knows you and your circumstances. You can’t fill in the form yourself. This could be:
- your teacher or support worker in college
- a social worker
- your local authority personal advisor
- Foyer or supported housing support workers
- someone from a supporting charity such as Sheffield Young Carers
- a healthcare professional
The best option is for your supporter to fill in the form while you’re there, so you can talk about what information to include.
If you are struggling to find a supporter to nominate you, please contact us on hallam-progress@shu.ac.uk or 0114 225 4777 for guidance.

What happens next?
We’ll review your nomination - if you are accepted, you will receive an email welcoming you to Hallam Progress. We may need to contact you or your nominator if we need additional information to process your nomination.
