✅ Suitability Declaration – Course Requirement
As part of your course entry, you must complete a Suitability Declaration Form.
Being open and honest is essential for Health, Social Care, and Education courses, in line with professional body expectations.
Our Professional Courses all involve regulated activity with children and/or vulnerable adults. As these courses require an Enhanced DBS check, they are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Exemptions are defined within The Police Act 1997 and The Police Act 1997 (Enhanced Criminal Record Certificates) (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) Regulations 2002.
This means we ask applicants to declare any conviction or caution that may appear on a DBS certificate, including spent convictions and cautions. If you are uncertain if your information should be declared, please read the DBS guidance on cautions and convictions here.
⚠️ Failure to disclose relevant information may lead to Fitness to Practise proceedings, which could result in removal from the course.
📧 You’ll receive a welcome email from SHU with a link to your Suitability Declaration.
If you haven’t received it, please contact: professionalchecks@shu.ac.uk
📝 Please provide as much detail as possible in your declaration to support the review process.
We advise you contact Unlock if you have any concerns or queries regarding your information and what should be declared.
🔍 All disclosures are reviewed case-by-case and do not automatically prevent course entry.
