For today's students and graduates, making the transition from education to employment can be challenging. Having a mentor to advise and encourage can help to develop critical thinking and broaden professional networks - ultimately opening up doors to advance their careers.

I am a Professor in Stone Conservation as well as Module Leader for the Research Methods and Dissertation Modules delivered to the Construction Project Management, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying Courses at levels 5 and 6 respectively.

As a senior lecturer, I teach and support students by taking a learner-centred approach in line with the University's Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy. I also contribute to curriculum development and delivery, research and other forms of scholarly activity as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Research developed from Penny McCarthy’s residency at the new South London Gallery in June 2010 exploring images and texts in Walter Benjamin’s Archive, a dispersed collection of fragments, traces, and constructions, a collection of philosophical ideas written on found material.
