Academic support

Academic support

As a Sheffield Hallam student you get three dedicated advisers, including an academic adviser to support your journey through higher education.

Your academic adviser works alongside your regular tutors to help you achieve your goals, and can guide you through options for further study and development.

You'll also have access to 24-hour libraries and a range of development opportunities, from regular skills workshops to volunteering projects and trips abroad.

Developing your academic skills

If you need to plug a skills gap – or refine skills you already have – you can visit the Skills Centre, a training hub based in the library. The centre offers group lessons, workshops and self-study resources. It can help you with your maths, academic writing, English language skills and much more.

Support for disabilities

If you have a disability or long-term physical or mental health condition, you'll have access to a full range of support through the Disabled Student Support team.

Some support is available to everyone, and some is based on a needs assessment – which can lead to specific adjustments that will help you live and study comfortably.

Specialist support

We also offer a range of support for students with particular life circumstances, including carers, care leavers, mature students, performance athletes and people who are estranged from their families.
