Things you need to do if you arrive late

Arrived late and not sure what you need to do? Don't worry, we've got you covered with our checklist to make sure you don't miss out on having a great experience and get the support that you need.

1. Book a support appointment

You should book a late arrivals appointment with a Student Support Adviser via Hallam Help. You will receive essential information about arriving at the University and the different services available that you will have missed during Welcome Week.

To book an appointment please contact Hallam Help or speak to an adviser by using the live chat function.

2. Get prepared to move into your accommodation

If you're moving into halls, we'll provide you with clear instructions on what to do when you arrive, with a welcome pack and guidance as part of your Welcome Module. If you need to arrange accommodation then you can see a list of options depending on your needs and budget on our website.

3. Attend your course welcome online

You will have received an email on how to access this. The welcome page has a link to this schedule too.

4. Enrol online and get your SHUcard

Look out for an email which will tell you what to do. If you don’t receive an email, contact webenrolhelp@shu.ac.uk or phone 0114 478 1478.

5. Access your student loan

If you are waiting for a loan payment, make sure you are fully enrolled. When enrolment is complete we will confirm your registration to the Student Loan Company. Loan payments usually follow in 3–5 days.

For help with enrolment contact webenrolhelp@shu.ac.uk, but please be aware that this team is extremely busy.

You can check the progress of your loan in the student loan section of My Student Record. If loan delays are causing urgent financial problems, contact Hallam Help – we can provide supermarket vouchers to keep you going.

6. Print your council tax letter and bank letter from My Student Record

Once you've enrolled you'll be able to access these two documents to prove that you're a student. These can be used to open student bank accounts and show that you're exempt from council tax if you're a full-time student.

7. Register with our medical centre

If you're moving to Sheffield, register with our medical centre online at campusdoctor.co.uk/shu If you're staying at home you can choose to register with us or stay with your own surgery.

8. Find out about disability support

As well as including students with physical, visual or hearing impairment, you may be classed as a disabled student if you have a long-term medical condition, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, an autism spectrum condition or mental health difficulties.

Find out more about Disabled Student Support.

9. Are you an international or exchange student?

Our dedicated meet and greet desk for international and exchange students will be open online for any questions you may have. There’s lots of events to take part in through our orientation programme, and new international students are matched with a mentor through our Culture Connect mentoring scheme.

You can also join SHU GoGlobal to make friends from around the world and get the most out of your first weeks.

For the latest arrival dates please read our arrival guidance for international students.
