Planning

Once you have structured and annotated your mindmap you now have the option to use some of the alternative views to add time management information.

To change the view, firstly make sure that no branches are selected.  You can do this by clicking on the white space around your mind map.  Now, click the Document Inspector menu.  You will now see options relating to the mind map, rather than an individual branch.  You have a selection of views available to choose from, along with the option to change the layout of  the mind map.

You can use the Outline view to see an overview of all your task information in a contents style, where your branches are displayed as rows.  This view will also present the information in a top down format, which is how it will look when you export the mind map into a document format.  This can help with making sure that your assignment plan is correctly structured.

You can change the order of this structure from inside the Outline view by clicking and dragging and dropping the rows to move them.  Note that this will also update the placement of branches when you return to the mind map view.

You can use the Kanban view to prioritise or mark the progress of your project.  When you click on the Kanban view icon, you will be presented with three columns.  Initially, these will show Low, Normal or High priority.  The branches of your mind map will be listed under the Normal priority column.

Within the Kanban view, you can drag and drop the branches to place them into the Low or High priority columns.  As this information is now visualised, it can help you with where to focus on the higher priority tasks within your project.

Alternatively, you can change the Kanban view to show the levels of completion.

Click on the Kanban Completion button  kanban completion icon

The view will change to now show columns labelled Not Started, In Progress and Completed.  Again, you can drag and drop the branches to different columns.  This can help with showing you where you have yet to start work.

If you need to be more specific and set start and end dates for elements of your project, you can use the Timeline view.

Click the Timeline button  Timeline view button

The view will change.  You can now select a branch from the Outline shown on the left of the screen, and then assign a start and end date in the Topic inspector menu, under the Title Information section.

The branch and chosen dates will now show on the timeline.  You can use this to plan out your time and where you need to focus your attention.
