The distraction problem…

Digital distraction is a huge issue for many people. We often struggle to control how we spend time on our devices thanks to constant notifications, applications engineered to capture user time and attention, and pervasive social media. This often undermines our ability to study effectively and can negatively impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

 

…and a ground breaking solution

Since 2016, a team at Oxford University has been thinking about how best to support university students to get the best from digital devices while mitigating these harms. The result is a ground breaking 70-minute workshop, the Reduce Digital Distraction (ReDD) Workshop. The workshop helps you to identify concerns about your device use, learn about digital self-control tools, and implement the best options for you, there and then.

 

Dr Ulrik Lyngs (Human Centred Computing, University of Oxford) will be running the 70-minute Reduce Digital Distraction Workshop here at Hallam, with actionable steps to help you take control of your digital life at university. The workshop aims to help you to:

  • reflect on your relationship with digital devices
  • explore strategies for managing digital distraction 
  • apply your favourite strategies on your own devices

14th February - Collegiate Campus - 3:30pm

15th February – City Campus - 10:00am

15th February - Online - 3:30pm

16th February – Online - 10:00am
