Discover how you can make a difference like Roxana.

Roles and responsibilities

An adult nurse puts patient care at the heart of everything they do. They are the first point of contact for adult patients and their families.

The role can see them working with other medical professionals such as doctors, social workers, support staff and therapists amongst others.

Make a difference as a nurse...

Peter's story

I was recovering from an operation in hospital when something went wrong. My blood pressure was through the roof and my heart rate was going higher and higher. It was my nurse, Alex, who realised I must be bleeding internally and alerted the doctor. Within the hour, I was back in surgery – and Alex had saved my life.

Alex's story

As a nurse, every day I know I've made a difference to a patient. Don't get me wrong, it's a trying career – but the way you can change a patient’s experience is so rewarding.

My training at Sheffield Hallam helped me grow from the nervous boy who had never changed a patient's bed to a valuable and autonomous nurse who can make big decisions and explain why it's the best thing for the patient.
