Nursing isn't just about physical illness – it is also about the illnesses you can't see. Mental health nurses work with patients to manage mental illness, with specialist knowledge and understanding of the effects these conditions can have on your life.

Anita’s story
My daughter's anxiety over confined spaces was preventing her from leading the life an eight-year-old girl should. David has provided the skills and clinical support she needed to overcome her fears in her own time. She is now well on her way to a complete recovery.
David’s story
It was a real privilege to be part of Anita’s daughter’s recovery. When I see young patients, I talk to them about their issues to help them understand early what mental health is, and how they can be helped.
I've always wanted to be a nurse. I did six placements during my course at Hallam, which helped me realise I wanted to work in mental health. When I see the results in my patients, it always gives me a big boost.
