On this course you’ll gain practical knowledge of business management, enterprise information systems, IT infrastructure management, business architecture and data analytics. You’ll develop core competencies such as project management, service management, content management and designing business enterprise.

How you learn
All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.
This course offers a diverse approach towards teaching. You’ll develop your knowledge through classroom experiences, the Hallam community and learning from IT and business experts – as well as working with regional clients from both profit and non-profit organisations.
You’ll start your journey by studying both information technology and business management concepts – along with foundations of information analysis. These elements are integrated together with an understanding of customers and markets. You’ll then develop your knowledge by analysing business services and developing business cases and solutions in WordPress and Visio.
In your final year, you’ll apply and develop your knowledge further by working with clients to design and deliver business and service solutions. You’ll also critically analyse and evaluate business data, exploiting enterprise architectures and development of business strategy.

Applied learning
Work placements
You’ll have the opportunity to complete a year-long work placement between your second and third year. A placement is widely recognised as the gold standard opportunity to gain personal and professional development through real-world experience.
You will be encouraged to take up this opportunity, as it will benefit your long-term career prospects and salary level, as well as your academic achievements and degree classification. Your course will prepare you to succeed in your placement and you will be supported throughout it.
Your placement will allow you to apply the knowledge and skills gained on your course, in areas such as business management, IT and project management.

Your placement year will allow you to gain an Applied Professional Diploma in addition to your degree which will enhance your graduate profile and give you the edge with future employers.
You’ll also be supported to take advantage of work experience opportunities throughout your course, through access to a range of support activities, resources, and employer events from your Employability Team. This will further enhance your employability skillset, confidence, and opportunity-awareness to help you succeed in your career after graduating.
Live projects
During your second year, you’ll undertake client projects to learn from and network with practitioners and experts. Some of the business cases students have developed include improving the energy efficiency of facilities using IoT devices, creating digital marketing channels for climate change awareness, and a mobile app for student mental health support.
In your final year, you’ll be challenged to act as consultants for an external organisation.
These projects are excellent opportunities to put your learning into practice and prepare you for highly skilled employment. This also allow you to graduate with an Applied Professional Diploma. Some of the organisations that students have delivered services to include Batch Tea, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary and the TASTE charity aimed at fulfilling water needs for people in Nigeria.
Networking opportunities
Each year we also host a careers fair where you can meet potential future employers to discuss the roles they offer. It’s an excellent chance to ask questions, seek advice and network with people already working in the industry.

Equipment and facilities
On this course you work with specialist business-oriented software like:

Laptops are provided in teaching rooms for seminars and desktop computers are provided in all computer labs. You can access Microsoft Office for free via a cloud provider – either on university laptops or your personal devices.
We’ve invested over £100m in new facilities to help you study how and when you want. This means 24-hour libraries and study spaces designed by our students.

All students

This must include at least 64 points from two A levels or equivalent BTEC National qualifications. For example:
- BBC-BBB at A Level
- DDM in BTEC Extended Diploma
- Merit overall from a T level qualification
- A combination of qualifications, which may include AS Levels, EPQ and general studies.

GCSE equivalents
- Level 2 Literacy or Functional Skills Level 2 English

• Access - an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 15 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate.
If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Fees and funding
Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2024/25 is £9,250 per year. These fees are regulated by the UK government and are therefore subject to changes in government policy. During your placement year you will pay a reduced fee of £1,200.
If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students
