Organisation, time and task management

Being organised to best manage time and daily tasks can be integral to a placement.  Good time management can reduce stress, support making the most of learning opportunities and support meeting expectations.  The following adjustments can form the basis of a discussion to achieve a successful placement experience for all concerned:

  • A schedule set out in advance where possible.
  • Focusing on one type of task at a time.
  • Time to prepare for aspects on placement that require feedback and sharing information e.g. handovers or team meetings. Perhaps set a learning objective about taking part in team meetings.
  • Extra time to process information.
  • A daily plan to structure the day ahead, including expectations (e.g. what to lead, what to observe, which notes to write up).
